Useful Tips for Riding Bikes During The Rains
Hitting the roads during heavy downpours can be extremely difficult, therefore one has to be very careful while going for rides during the rainy season. You should avoid going to regions where rains are extremely unpredictable. Also, apart from keeping your bike well maintained and serviced, there are few other tips that you need to follow while riding a bike in the rainy season. Here are some extremely basic but very helpful tips for a monsoon bike trip that you need to keep in mind without any failure while on the road.
Tips for Monsoon Bike Trip
- Avoid Speeding
The control on the bike tends to lessen when on wet roads that is why you need to avoid speeding and maintain a low speed while riding on wet roads. - Make sure you are visible
Ensure that you are visible to others. Ride with your headlights on, and don’t forget to switch on the side indicators too (if need be). Also, you can choose to wear a bright coloured raincoat so that other riders can see you and your bike from a distance. The best option is to wear a reflector jacket with a bright helmet. - Pull the brakes gently
Using the front disc brakes alone can be dangerous. Make sure that you use both the brakes, but gently because pulling brakes in a haste can lead to skidding. - Maintain Safe Distance
Another important tip is to maintain a safe distance between your bike and the vehicles around. It will be helpful in the event you have to bring your bike to a halt. - Don’t forget your safety gears
It is advisable to invest in a good helmet. Choose a full-face helmet as it will protect your face from the raindrops that will be stinging your face. Apart from this, ensure that you wear other necessary bike gear too, such as knee pads, elbow guards or an armoured riding jacket. - Keep your eyes on the road
One of the foremost things is to keep your eyes wide open when on road in order to avoid hitting the hidden water-logged areas or deep cracks that could make you topple off your bike. Besides this avoid the puddles altogether, because you don’t even have an idea of how deep they might actually be. While riding on curvy roads, be extremely cautious around the corners.
